The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) for Years 11 and 12 is a recognised senior qualification. In 2021 Croxton School is piloting a year 11 VCAL program at our Transition Learning Centre situated at Thornbury High School. We are hoping to offer VCAL to students beyond 2021 on both Northcote and TLC campuses. VCAL focuses on applied and real-life learning. Students who participate in VCAL are more likely to be interested in going on to training at TAFE, doing an apprenticeship, or getting a job after completing Year 12. Students who participate in the Croxton VCAL program are generally aged between 16 and 18 years and have been assessed as eligible for Special School enrolment.

The four compulsory strands are:

  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Work Related skills
  • Industry Specific skills
  • Personal Development skills

The VCAL has three award levels

Supporting students with Careers and Transitioning to Post School Options:
During secondary and senior years, students are supported through a variety of programs and collaboration between staff and families to ensure a successful transition into further education, training, transition to employment and leisure programs when students leave school. Staff work closely with families to assist in planning each student’s individual post school option plan.
